Samuel Thomas Hunter Clay (born June 21, 1993) is a Major League Baseball pitcher who pitches for the Washington Nationals. In the year 2021, he debuted in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Clay grew up in Buford, Georgia, and graduated from Buford High School.

He attended Georgia Tech, where he was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team.

Clay was taken in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins as a draft-eligible sophomore.

From 2014 through 2019, Clay was a member of the Twins minor league system. He worked out at the alternate training location at CHS Field in St. Paul as a non-roster invitee to Minnesota’s 60-man player pool in 2020.

Clay was never signed to a major-level roster by the Twins, and after the 2020 season, he was a minor league free agency.

Clay was signed to a major league contract by the Washington Nationals on November 18, 2020, marking the first time in his playing career that he was included on a major league team.

Clay made his major league debut on April 6, 2021.

The next day, he made his major league debut against the Atlanta Braves, pitching a scoreless inning.
