Sara Beth Bareilles is a singer, songwriter, actress, and novelist from the United States. In 2004, Bareilles self-released an album called Careful Confessions. Her second studio album, Little Voice (2007), was her first recording for a big record company, and it helped her get even more attention (Epic).

The album featured the breakthrough track “Love Song,” which charted at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and garnered her two Grammy awards, including Song of the Year. In 2010, she released Kaleidoscope Heart, her third studio album, which received a Grammy nomination for the lead hit “King of Anything.”

In the third season of NBC’s singing competition series The Sing-Off, Bareilles acted as a judge. Her fourth studio album, The Blessed Unrest, was released in 2013, and it was nominated for two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.



Bareilles was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Original Score and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album for her work on the 2015 Broadway musical Waitress, for which she created music and wrote lyrics.

She followed up with the studio album What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress, which has her singing several of the songs from the show. She was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Original Score for her performance in the Broadway musical SpongeBob SquarePants in 2016.

Bareilles was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for her performance of Mary Magdalene in the NBC musical television special Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert in 2018. She was also nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for co-hosting the 72nd Tony Awards in 2018.

In 2019, she released her sixth studio album, Amidst the Chaos, which earned her a Grammy Award for Best American Roots Performance for the tune “Saint Honesty.” In Peacock’s musical comedy Girls5eva, she plays Dawn Solano.

In the United States, Bareilles’ albums and singles have sold over one million copies. She has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards and has won one of them, as well as three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Tony Awards.

Bareilles was ranked 80th on VH1’s Top 100 Greatest Women in Music list in February 2012. Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song, a New York Times bestseller, was published in 2015.
