Stephen Thomas Ridings, born August 14, 1995, is an American Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees (MLB). In 2021, he made his MLB debut. Ridings went to Haverford College after graduating from St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, New York.
The Chicago Cubs selected Ridings in the eighth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. Ridings made his professional debut with the Arizona League Cubs in 2017, recording a 4.09 ERA in 12 appearances. Ridings pitched for the Low-A Eugene Emeralds in 2018, posting a 4.15 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 34.2 innings over 22 games.
Ridings signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees on January 18, 2021. Ridings began the season with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, where he posted a 0.47 ERA in 14 appearances before being promoted to Triple-A. On July 21, while pitching for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, he pitched a no-hitter with Luis Gil and Reggie McClain.
Ridings made his major league debut on August 3, 2021, striking out three batters while allowing one hit. Luis Gil started the game, and Brody Koerner pitched as well. The Yankees had three pitchers make their debuts in the same game for the first time on September 26, 1950.
Ridings pitched to a 1.80 ERA in five big league appearances before being sent to Triple-A Scranton on August 17. On November 19, 2021, the Yankees added Ridings to their 40-man roster following the 2021 season.
