Dennis Duane “D. J.” Reed Jr., an American football cornerback with the New York Jets of the National Football League, was born on November 11, 1996.
He was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft after playing college football for Kansas State.
In the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Reed was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV, Reed’s second season, but the 49ers made it that far.
At the start of training camp on July 28, 2020, he was added to the active/non-football injury list. On August 4, 2020, he was released from the list with a non-football injury designation.
Reed was picked up by the Seattle Seahawks on August 5, 2020, off of waivers. At the beginning of the regular season on September 5, 2020, he was added to the reserve/non-football injury list. He was then reactivated on October 31, 2020.
Due to Quinton Dunbar’s injury, he took Quinton Dunbar’s place at right cornerback. In a 37-27 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, Reed made his first interception of the season.
In Week 15 against the Washington Football Team, he made a second interception as the team won 20-15. Even after Dunbar was fit, Reed’s good performance allowed him to keep the starting job for the remainder of the season.
Reed and the New York Jets agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract on March 17, 2022.
