Proche spent his childhood in Dallas, Texas, where he attended Red Oak High School for three years before moving on to DeSoto High School for his last year of high school owing to academic issues with Prime Prep.

In his one and only season with the Eagles, he played in only seven games due to kidney failure that he suffered during summer training camp. Despite this, he still managed to catch 18 passes for 335 yards and a score.

Proche, who was rated as a three-star prospect, chose to play collegiate football at SMU rather than accept any of the other numerous offers he received, including those from Colorado State, Louisville, Maryland, TCU, and Wake Forest.

Proche sat out his first season as a true freshman to wear a red shirt. The year after that, Proche finished in second place on the team after recording 57 receptions, 709 receiving yards, and six touchdown catches.
