Ashleigh Barty is an Australian tennis player known for her throwback style of play, which includes volleys, slices, lobs, and smart shot placement. Barty is also recognized for her athletic versatility, having spent a few years playing professional cricket.

She is now Australia’s strongest hope for singles and doubles Grand Slam success, having already won one Major, the women’s doubles crown at the 2018 US Open.
Barty plays traditional tennis, with an equal amount of offence and defence. She doesn’t strike the ball as powerfully as her colleagues, particularly from the backhand side, but she employs pace and spin to keep her opponents guessing.

Barty began playing tennis when he was four years old. She had a stellar junior career, winning the 2011 Wimbledon girls’ singles title and rising to World No. 2 in the process.

When she turned pro, the Australian experienced rapid success in doubles, reaching consecutive Grand Slam finals with Casey Dellacqua in 2013. However, she became disillusioned with the sport’s rigours and declared in 2014 that she would be retiring from tennis.

Since then, Barty has consistently progressed up the WTA rankings in both singles and doubles. She is also the National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador, bringing awareness about the need for more indigenous participation in tennis.
