The band made the announcement official on Twitter this evening (March 25th) (see below). Hawkins was found dead while on tour with the band, but the cause of death has not been revealed.

The drummer of the Foo Fighters had recently celebrated his 50th birthday.

Hawkins was a drummer for Alanis Morissette before joining the Foo Fighters. With Morissette, he participated in videos for “You Oughta Know,” “All I Really Wanna, and “You Learn,” among others.

Prior to joining Foo Fighters as a drummer, Hawkins toured with Sass Jordan and worked with a number of other bands.
