Marcus Dixon attended Pepperell High School and was offered a football scholarship to Hampton University after his release from prison.

As a junior in high school, Dixon recorded 98 tackles, including 12 for loss, 3 sacks, and 7 passes defended, earning him first-team All-Area accolades and a spot on the All-Area team. In addition, he finished third in the regional shot throw and discus competitions.

Dixon, a senior, attempted to play in the season opener despite having a chip bone in his left knee, but he was unable to do so due to an injury. The surgery was performed on his left knee on September 17, and he was unable to participate in football while he was recovering from it.

Dixon was offered a full scholarship at Vanderbilt University, but he was unable to attend because of his subsequent imprisonment. Dixon was a straight-A student who excelled on the football field.

Dixon earned a football scholarship from Hampton University, a Division I-AA school in Hampton, Virginia, upon his release from prison. He played in all 12 games as a freshman, starting six of the final seven. (Seventh on the team) He had 38 tackles (seventh) and nine tackles for loss (fifth on the team).

Dixon made 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, and an interception as a sophomore, starting nine of ten games.

As a junior, he played in all 11 games, accumulating 25 tackles, four sacks (third on the team), and 5.5 tackles for loss while playing as a defensive end and defensive tackle.
