Josh Sweat, an American football defensive end with the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, was born on March 29, 1997. At Florida State, he participated in college football.

Sweat, a Chesapeake, Virginia native, played on Andrew Brown’s team at Oscar F. Smith High School.

He had 94 tackles during his junior season, which helped Oscar Smith advance unbeaten to the 2013 VHSL 6A state championship game before being defeated 35-6 by Centreville High School.



Sweat made an impression at off-season football camps with his athleticism, drawing parallels to Jadeveon Clowney.

Sweat began his senior year as the top recruit in the nation, according to ESPN, and in the first two games of the season, he racked up 25 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. Sweat dislocated his knee and tore his ACL during the third game of the season against Western Branch High School.

He had reconstructive surgery in New York under the care of New York Giants team doctor Russell Warren before he graduated from Oscar Smith in December 2014 and enrolled early in college.

At Florida State, Sweat played collegiate football. Sweat played 12 games as a freshman in 2015, recording 41 tackles, 5 sacks, an interception, 2 passes deflected, and 3 fumble recoveries. Sweat participated in 11 games as a sophomore in 2016 and recorded 41 tackles, 7 sacks, a pass defense, and a fumble recovery.

Sweat played 12 games as a junior in 2017 and recorded 56 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3 passes defended. Sweat made the decision to forgo his senior year and declare for the draft on January 4, 2018.

At the 2018 NFL Combine, Sweat ranked first among defensive linemen in 40-yard dash and vertical jump.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Sweat in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (130th overall). In a deal that sent Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the Eagles received the 130th overall pick. On December 11, 2018, he was put on injured reserve.
