Franklin Ford in the drama film The Paper Chase and Dick Stensland in Curtis Hanson’s L.A. Confidential are two of his most well-known acting performances.

He has also appeared on Battlestar Galactica and Heroes, where he played Jack Fisk and Hal Sanders respectively. As a diner customer, Beckel made an appearance in the film The Astronaut Farmer.

In Atlas Shrugged, Beckel portrays oil tycoon Ellis Wyatt (2011). As Nathan Cardiff, the owner of the fictional corporation “Cardiff Electric” on the AMC television drama Halt & Catch Fire, appears on an occasional basis.
