Biography
Johnson was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey. He began his high school career at South Plainfield High School before moving to The Pennington School. He was named to New Jersey’s first-team all-prep team. He finished his senior season with 108 tackles, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He also participated in AAU basketball during his high school years.
Johnson was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week during his junior season for his play against Wake Forest on November 12, 2012. He was a member of the North team at the 2014 Senior Bowl.
Some NFL draft analysts anticipated him as a third or fourth-round choice out of NC State, while others projected him as a fifth or sixth-round pick. He was invited to the NFL combine and successfully completed all the mandatory combine and positional workouts.
He chose to participate in NC State’s pro day on March 24, 2014 but limited himself to positional drills for NFL team representatives and scouts.
