Hunter Harvey is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Baltimore Orioles selected him with the 22nd pick in the first round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft.
The two years prior to that, he did not throw a pitch. Harvey was sidelined for six weeks on May 12, 2015, owing to elbow stiffness. This year he did not play for any minor league team.
In September of that year, Harvey participated in an instructional league. He was placed on the disabled list to begin the 2016 season and underwent Tommy John surgery in July, ending his season. He was out for the remainder of the season.
While pitching for Aberdeen, Delmarva, and the Gulf Coast Orioles in 2017, Harvey was 0-1 with a 0.96 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 18+2/3 innings pitched over the three teams. Harvey also threw three rehab games with the Gulf Coast Orioles (14.5 strikeouts per 9 innings).
After the 2017 season, the Orioles added Harvey to their 40-man roster. He started the season with the Class AA Eastern League Bowie Baysox, but he was promoted to the majors on April 9 to provide the relief corps a boost.
Instead of making his major league debut, he was sent down to Bowie two days later, where he spent the rest of the year before being released. He had a 1–2 record and a 5.57 ERA in 32.1 innings in nine starts.
