James “Jimmie” Ward who was born on July 18, 1991, plays free safety for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers. He was picked by the 49ers in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft after playing collegiate football in Northern Illinois.
Ward graduated from Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, after being born in Racine, Wisconsin. As a senior, he led the Warriors in interceptions with 101, 73 of which were solo, as Davidson went 10-3 and progressed to the state playoffs, earning him team Defensive MVP honors. Ward also had an interception, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and three recovered fumbles.
He also had three sacks of the quarterback and three blocked kicks. Ward had 93 tackles as a junior, seven pass breakups, and five interceptions. In addition, he forced two fumbles and stopped two kicks. Caron Butler, a former NBA player, is his cousin.
