Josephine Ann Tewson was a popular actress and television personality. She was most well-known for her roles in British television sitcoms, including Edna Hawkins (“Mrs. H”) in Shelley; Elizabeth “Liz” Warden, the long-suffering next-door neighbor of Hyacinth Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances (1990–1995); and Miss Davenport in Last of the Summer Wine.

She later starred in Mostly Monkhouse, a BBC Radio Comedic program with David Jason supporting Bob Monkhouse.

She was a regular comedy performer who appeared in skits including Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker on David Frost on Sunday and Hark at Barker (1969).

Tewson had a recurring role as Miss Davenport in the British sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, which aired from 2003 through 2010, and was written by Roy Clarke, who was also responsible for Keeping Up Appearances.

In addition, she has been a guest on two episodes of the comedy documentary series Comedy Connections, where she discussed her work in the film Keeping Up Appearances (2004) and her roles opposite The Two Ronnies (2005)

Between the years 1958 and 1961, Tewson was married to the actor Leonard Rossiter. The couple divorced in 1961.

She eventually tied the knot with Henry Newman in 1972, and he passed away in 1980.
