David Heald was a professor whose research interests centered on challenging problems with great policy relevance.

He was a member of the Financial Reporting Advisory Board to HM Treasury (2004-09) on the nomination of the UK Government’s Chief Economic Adviser, at a time when accounting for Public-Private Partnerships and the adoption of IFRS for government financial reporting were contentious issues.
