Recovering from the Monaco and Spain wrecks, Piquet was able to win the French Grand Prix at Dijon but was forced to wait for the rain to cease before he could continue racing.

The First Grand Prix win for Prost came 45 minutes later when Piquet was dropped to third place following mechanical work done during the break. Prost and McLaren’s John Watson finished second and third.
