Raffaella Rae Allen, better known as Julia Theresa Abruzzo, was an American actress, director, and singer. Rae Allen began her acting career on Broadway in 1948 and transitioned to television and movies in 1958.

Where’s Poppa? and Where’s Reign Over Me is among the films Rae Allen has appeared in. Rae Allen has featured in two episodes of Seinfeld as Lenore Sokol, an unemployment counsellor who has to cope with George Costanza’s attempts to date her homely daughter in order to convince her to authorize an extension of his benefits.

In 1926, Allen was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to Julia (née Riccio) and Joseph Abruzzo. She received formal training at the HB Studio in Greenwich Village, where he remained until his death in 2003.



She received her bachelor’s degree from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1947. Allen died peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2022, when she was 95 years old.

Allen had previously been nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Damn Yankees in 1955 and Traveller Without Luggage in 1967.

She played the nosy reporter Gloria in the original Broadway show and reprised the character in the film adaptation, both of which featured the song “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo.”
