José Alberto Pujols Alcántara is Sophia Pujol’s father, he is a professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball and was born on January 16, 1980.

He was known as “The Machine” or “La Máquina” in Spanish and spent his first 11 MLB seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. He then spent more than nine seasons with the Los Angeles Angels before spending half a season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and then returning to the Cardinals in 2022 for what he has stated will be his final season. He has held the title of oldest MLB player since 2020.

Pujols is a highly regarded hitter who long showed a “combination of contact hitting ability, patience, and raw power.” He was the National League (NL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2005, 2008, and 2009 and is an 11-time All-Star (2001, 2003–2010, 2015, 2022).

He is a six-time Silver Slugger who has twice led the NL in home runs, and he has also led the NL once each in batting average, doubles, and RBIs. With 14 seasons of 100 or more RBIs, he is one of only three players in MLB history to have topped 2,200 RBIs in his career.

In 2018, Pujols collected his 3,000th career hit, becoming the 32nd player in MLB history to reach that milestone. In 2022, Pujols hit his 700th home run off of Dodgers’ pitcher Phil Bickford, becoming the fourth player in MLB history to reach that milestone.

On January 1, 2000, Pujols wed Deidre Pujols. They have five kids together: Esther Grace, Albert Jr., Sophia, Ezra, and Isabella (Deidre’s daughter from a prior relationship). On April 4, 2022, Pujols filed for divorce from his wife of 22 years, citing irreconcilable differences.
