Why Was Isaiah Jones Shot Dead?
Roshawn Jones, Isaiah Jones’ trainer, told The Ring that the boxer from Detroit was shot and killed on Monday night during a dispute with a relative. The trainer asserts not to be related to Jones, who, according to The Ring, was shot in the head after a disagreement with his brother.
Isiah Jones, who was 28 years old, passed away in the midst of correspondence following a dispute with a family member. The American had reportedly been bickering with his brother, according to Jones’ trainer Roshawn Jones (not related).
The Detroit Police Department informed The Ring that no other information was provided, but that a 28-year-old man with that name was shot and murdered by a relative at 6:26 p.m. in the 9300 block of Stout Street.
Jones, who won the 2016 National Golden Gloves, had a final pro record of 9-7 (3 knockouts). His stated amateur record was 52-2.
Under the guidance of Roshawn Jones and Kenneth Ross, he turned professional in 2016 and won his first eight fights. However, after leaving the camp, he lost seven of his subsequent eight fights.
His lone victory during that time period came against the undefeated Donte Stubbs in an unexpected majority decision.
Prior to his most recent fight, a unanimous decision loss to Andrew Murphy in July, Jones had rejoined the Roshawn Jones camp. At the time of his passing, Jones was in training and seeking a new fight.
Jones appeared on the Canelo Alvarez-Callum Smith undercard, where he was stopped by Austin “Ammo” Williams in the first round, and on three occasions at “The Bubble” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as part of Top Rank’s boom period boxing shows on ESPN.
Isiah Jones’ courage in the ring should be remembered, according to Roshawn Jones.
