Xander attended Scripps Ranch High School Schauffele where he played golf for the school. He won the 2011 California State High School Championship playing for his school.
After he completed high school, he gained admission to California State University Long Beach. He played golf for them and as a freshman, he earned the 2012 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year award as well as the 2012 First Team All-Big West awards.
Xander began playing golf professionally in June 2015. That year, he participated in the 2015 Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament. He was the runner up in the first stage of the competition at Southern Dunes GC in Maricopa, Arizona and won the second stage at Oak Valley GC in Beaumont, California.
