Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont fell at home and fractured his hip; his office revealed on Thursday that he would need surgery to fix it.
The statement claims that the Democrat, 82, was struck on Wednesday night in McLean, Virginia. According to medical professionals, hip surgery should be performed as soon as is practical. Leahy was born with one eye missing.
The senator “has struggled with decreased depth perception for his whole life,” the statement claims. He has absorbed some amazing hits throughout the years, but this one finally caught up with him.
“Leahy was expected to make a full recovery and soon start a helpful course of physical therapy,” according to the report. Leahy is the senator with the most experience. He announced in November that he will not seek reelection this year. By the time his term ends in January 2023, he will have served in the Senate for 48 years.
Leahy was sent to the hospital shortly after beginning to preside over the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump in January 2021. Leahy was sent there out of an excess of caution because she had been having health problems. He was examined before being allowed to return home.
Leahy is the final representative of the so-called Watergate babies, a group of Democratic lawmakers who were elected in 1974 following President Richard Nixon’s resignation in order to avoid impeachment.
