After receiving a wild card into Nottingham, Fritz made his ATP Tour debut by defeating Pablo Carreo Busta in his maiden match on the tour.

This was Fritz’s first tournament in 2016 and he made it all the way through to a final once again, this time defeating top-100 player Dudi Sela in Happy Valley.
For his first Grand Slam event main draw appearance, he made it through qualifying for Australian Open Qualifying, where he lost in the first round against fellow American Jack Sock in five sets.
