What did the Browns give up for Deshaun Watson?

Deshaun Watson

Watson is expected to fetch a hefty sum from the Browns. According to quarterback Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, they are trading three future first-round selections and a third-round pick to obtain Watson.

As part of the deal, they will exchange a fourth-round selection for a fifth-round pick.

Watson’s fully guaranteed contract was worth $80 million more than the biggest guaranteed agreement at the time of signing.

Watson arrives with a slew of unanswered issues, the most pressing of which being whether he will be suspended for part of the 2022 NFL season as a result of the sexual harassment charges leveled against him.

However, if he can get and remain on the field, he will offer the Browns the franchise quarterback they have been looking for for a long time.

Watson threw for an NFL-high 4,823 yards in 2020, completing 70.2 percent of his passes.

He also threw 33 passing touchdowns and only seven interceptions, which was a career record. Watson was scarcely to blame for the Texans’ lack of success.

In Cleveland, he’ll join a solid supporting cast that includes Amari Cooper, Nick Chubb, and one of the top offensive lines in the league.

The Texans, on the other hand, were never going to let Watson leave. Even before the allegations against him were made public, there was tension between him and the Houston front office.

In the offseason of 2021, Watson asked to be traded away from the team.
