Inmate Casey White, 38, and prison guard Vicky White, 56, were recaptured today following a huge manhunt. Vicky White died today.
On May 9, a prison officer allegedly shot herself after she and a fugitive were tracked down by law enforcement and a dramatic car pursuit ensued in southern Indiana.
Vicky and Casey are not related, despite sharing a last name. Due to Vicky’s position in the Alabama Jail system, Casey ended up in Lauderdale County after supposedly confessing to murder in Jefferson County.
It was reported in 2015 that Casey had already been sentenced to 75 years in prison for a number of violent offenses and has now been charged with the stabbing death of a 58-year-old female. A large part of Vicky’s responsibilities includes transporting prisoners.
Corrections officer or “prison guard” wasn’t Vicky Sue Davis White’s entire name. In her role as assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, the blonde officer possessed some authority.
There have been reports that Vicky was hailed as an “example” in her field. Despite being a four-time Employee of the Year, the prison guard’s professional record was “unblemished.”
Vicky’s actions in aiding Casey’s escape stunned Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly, who dubbed her “the most solid person in the jail.”
