Kevin Smith is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Smith attended the University of Maryland, College Park after graduating from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York.
He spent three seasons as the Terrapins’ starting shortstop. Smith played in 66 games as a freshman, averaging.273 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, and a team-high 11 stolen bases.
Smith slugged.259 with eight home runs and 34 RBI as a sophomore. His college summer baseball career began in 2016 when the Yarmouth–Denis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League named him an all-star and named one of the top prospects in the league by Baseball America, D1Baseball.com, and Perfect Game.
In the league’s championship series he was named the MVP after batting.500 with a home run and three RBI to help Yarmouth–Denis win the league championship for the third time. Smith slugged.268 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 54 games for the Terrapins in his final season.
