Barry Hall is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Storm in the 1990s. He is widely considered as one of the finest forwards of the modern era, having been named All-Australian nine times and captaining the Sydney Swans to their first AFL Grand Final victory in 2005.
On three occasions, he has been named to the All-Australian team. In July 2011, Hall created AFL history by becoming the first player to score 100 goals for three different clubs in the same season.
He is now on the Kangaroos’ Broadford waiting list. Hall began his professional football career with the St Kilda Football Club, where he won the club’s top goalkicker award twice in 1999 and 2001.
He is best remembered for his time with the Sydney Swans. During his time with the Swans, he was the club’s best player, topping the goalkicking leaderboard from 2002 to 2008 and serving as co-captain from 2005 to 2007, including the club’s drought-breaking championship in 2005. In 2005, he was named to the AFL All-Star squad.
In 2006, he was featured in a joint AFL and Swans campaign known as “Barry Hall Hall,” and he played a big role in the AFL’s promotion in Sydney, gaining a similar degree of popularity to Tony Lockett.
The former junior boxing champion’s AFL career was ruined by a reputation for on-field aggression, giving him the label “football’s wild man.” He immediately grew to become one of the most feared players in the game, gaining the moniker “the lion of the field.”
