The 26-year-old, who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on August 23, 1995, studied his skill in New Zealand and represented that nation during his Junior career before deciding to support Great Britain in 2013.

Norrie later won a sociology scholarship to Texas Christian University and joined the Horned Frogs team, where he soon rose to the top of the nation’s tennis rankings.

At the ATP Auckland Open in January 2013, Norrie competed in his debut senior competition and won the first qualifying round.

In 2013, Norrie competed in three clay-court competitions: the Boy’s French Open first round, the Great Britain Futures F9 second round, and the F11 quarterfinals.

Before the 2018 Davis Cup match against Spain, he didn’t play another match on clay.

When Norrie turned 18 in August 2013, he was ranked No. 1348. However, a semifinal finish at the Canada Futures F6 helped him climb to No. 973, and by June 2014, he was ranked No. 637.

He played on the circuit infrequently while attending college, dropping to No. 1114 in October 2015. Norrie improved to position 706 by winning the USA Futures F29 at Mansfield, Texas, on October 11, 2015.

Since becoming a professional in 2018, Norrie has won two competitions. Most recently, she achieved a career-high by defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili to win the Indian Wells Masters in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-1).
