Jeena Ostapenko, often known as Aona Ostapenko, is a Latvian professional tennis player. She was born on June 8, 1997. She earned career-high WTA rankings of No. 5 in singles on March 19, 2018, and No. 17 in doubles on March 2, 2020.

Ostapenko, the first person from Latvia to win a Grand Slam singles competition, won the 2017 French Open, becoming the first unseeded player to win the French Open since 1933.

She has participated in the Latvia Fed Cup squad in addition to her singles career. On the ITF Women’s Circuit, she has won seven singles matches and eight doubles match. She also took first place in the junior singles competition at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships.



Ostapenko was born in Riga, Latvia, to Jevgnijs Ostapenko (d. 2020), a former player from Ukraine, and Jeena Jakoveva. In the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, where Jeena’s grandmother resides, Jevgnijs played professional football for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya.

One of Jeena’s half-brothers, Maksim, resides in the USA. Her mother introduced her to tennis when she was five years old, and she grew up idolizing Serena Williams. She began dancing at that age as well, later competing in the National Latvian Ballroom Dancing Championships.

She opted to concentrate on tennis when she was 12 years old, although she attributes her excellent coordination and deft feet to her years of dancing.

Ostapenko does not appear to have any children as of July 2022. Ostapenko is currently involved in a relationship with soccer player Arthurs Karasausks, who was formerly married to Nikola Karasauska.
