In the Cleveland Guardians organization, outfielder George Valera was born in the United States on November 13, 2000.



When Valera was thirteen years old, his family relocated from Queens, New York to San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. In July 2017, as an unrestricted foreign free agent, he joined the Cleveland Indians.

During his first six games as a professional, Valera batted.333 with the Indians of the Arizona League.



He played with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to start the 2019 season before being promoted to the Lake County Captains before the finish of the campaign. He batted throughout the course of 52 games for both clubs. 214 with 32 RBIs and eight home homers.


Due to the COVID-19 pandemic-related cancellation of the minor league season in 2020, he did not participate in a single minor league game.

Valera played 86 games in 2021 while splitting the season between the Akron RubberDucks and Lake County, slashing.260/.405/.505 with 19 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.

On November 19, 2021, Valera was chosen by the Cleveland Guardians, the team’s new name, to the 40-man roster.
