Jeļena Ostapenko, also known as Aļona Ostapenko is a professional tennis player from Latvia. Her mother introduced her to tennis when she was five years old, and she grew up idolizing Serena Williams. She began dancing at that age as well, later competing in the National Latvian Ballroom Dancing Championships.

At the Tashkent Open, she entered the main draw for the first time on the WTA Tour after receiving a wildcard. Following the passing of her father, Ostapenko withdrew from the 2020 Auckland Open. She beat Liudmila Samsonova in the opening round of the Australian Open before losing to Belinda Bencic in the following round. She competed in mixed doubles with Leander Paes and reached the quarterfinals in doubles with Gabriela Dabrowski before falling to the eventual winners in the second round.

Ostapenko fell to Anett Kontaveit in the semifinals of the Qatar Open in 2022. She lost in the opening round of her following three singles matches at the Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, and Madrid Open. In doubles, she advanced to the semifinals in Madrid.

Her problems grew worse after she lost in the Italian Open’s opening round. Ostapenko was defeated by Alizé Cornet in the second round of the French Open in three sets. In doubles, she made her first Major semifinal appearance at the same competition while teaming up once more with Lyudmyla Kichenok.
