Sears was a member of the baseball team while attending The Citadel. A member of the Seattle Mariners’ 2017 Major League Baseball draft class, he was selected in the eleventh round.

The Everett AquaSox and the Clinton LumberKings were his first two professional teams, and he finished with a combined 1-2 record and a 0.65 earned run average in 27+23 innings.
