Kevin Smith is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays.
After playing his college ball at the University of Maryland, Kevin Smith was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2017 amateur draft.
During the 2021 season, he made his main league debut with Toronto and appeared in 18 games, hitting 3 for 32 with his first major league homer in the process.
For the Buffalo Bisons of Triple-A East, he slugged.285/.370/.561 with 27 doubles and 21 homers in 94 games, despite being forced to miss the previous season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On March 16, 2022, the Blue Jays dealt him to the Oakland Athletics along with three other young players in exchange for 3B Matt Chapman.
For him, the move provided a wonderful opportunity to take over Chapman’s previous job with Oakland, something that would have been extremely difficult for him to do with the Blue Jays.
