Kevin Smith is an American professional baseball shortstop for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Smith was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft. On his $405,100 contract with the Bluefield Blue Jays, he was allocated to a minor-league team.
Smith slugged.271 with eight home runs, 43 RBI, and nine stolen bases in 61 games with Bluefield. The Lansing Lugnuts and the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays were his two professional stops in 2018, where he batted.302/.358/.528 with 25 home runs, 93 RBI, and 29 stolen bases.
With the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of Double-A, Smith hit.209 with 19 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases in the 2019 season. The Arizona Fall League’s Scottsdale Scorpions signed him after the season ended, and he played in 18 games for them.
The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the minor league season in 2020, hence he was unable to play professional baseball. Prior to being called up, Smith played in 2021 for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, hitting.286 with a team-high 19 home runs and 63 RBI.
