In 1959, the Chargers were created in Los Angeles and joined the American Football League as a charter member in 1960. (AFL). In 1961, they relocated to San Diego to become the San Diego Chargers after their first season in Los Angeles.

Upon the AFL–NFL merger’s completion in 1970, the Chargers were welcomed into the NFL. After 56 seasons in San Diego, the Chargers returned to Los Angeles in 2017.

The Chargers in their 62 years history have had some of the finest linebackers in the history of the Franchise.

1. Junior Seau

Junior Seau earned ten consecutive All-Pro seasons and ten consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with the San Diego Chargers. UPI’s Defensive Player of the Year award went to him (1992). He was one of the greatest chargers of all time, Junior Seau. The NFL’s All-Decade Team selected him the 1990s

1. Shawne Merriman

A total of 10 sacks earned Shawne Merriman the Sportsing News Rookie of the Year award and the AP and Pro Football Writers Association Defensive Rookie of the Year honors for his first season in the league. First of all, he was a member of his third consecutive Pro Bowl team.

2. Billy Ray Smith, Jr.

Smith, a two-time All-American at Arkansas, was drafted fifth overall by the Chargers in the 1983 NFL Draft and was the team’s first-choice defensive player. A three-year starter with the Chargers on defense, Smith was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1987 and 1985.

His final stats were 26.5 tackles for loss and 15 interceptions over the course of his NFL career, which spanned 126 games.

3. Leslie O’Neal

O’Neal was a two-time All-American in collegiate football. After being taken eighth overall in the 1986 NFL draft by the Chargers, he joined the team. 4. Dennis Gibson

For the San Diego Chargers, Dennis Gibson was a linebacker for only two seasons, 1994 and 1995. Three interceptions and 2 1/2 sacks are among his most notable achievements. He never played in a Pro Bowl or was named an All-Pro, and he never won a championship. However, he did make a noteworthy interception in one of his many games.

5. Melvin Ingram

The San Diego Chargers selected Ingram with the 18th overall choice in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. On the field, Ingram had 18 quarterback sacks and 12 special teams tackles, which tied for the team lead. He appeared in every single one of the 16 games, making two starts.
