Wil Myers was placed on the disabled list on April 4, prompting Maton’s promotion from Triple-A El Paso to the majors. Maton was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 13 because of strained lat, but he returned to the squad on June 21 following a rehab assignment.

In just six appearances in El Paso, he had a WHIP of less than 1.00, prompting him to be recalled again on July 9 after being optioned to Triple-A. For the remainder of the season, Maton remained with the Padres and pitched in the middle relief role once more.

Overall, his ERA was 4.37, with 55 strikeouts in 4713 innings pitched. When he returned from the disabled list with a 0.56 ERA in his previous 16 innings and a 6.32 ERA with the Padres, Maton’s walk rate spiked.
