British politician Rishi Sunak held the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020 before taking office as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. He has served as Richmond’s representative in the legislature since 2015 and is a member of the Conservative Party.

Sunak attended Winchester College for his studies. After that, he continued his studies in philosophy, politics, and economics at Lincoln College in Oxford before earning an MBA as a Fulbright Scholar from Stanford University. He first met Akshata Murty, the wife of N. R. Narayana Murthy, the billionaire Indian businessman who founded Infosys, while he was a student at Stanford University. After earning his degree, he worked for Goldman Sachs before becoming a partner at The Children’s Investment Fund.

He was elected to represent Richmond (Yorks) in the general election of 2015, and he held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government during Theresa May’s second term. He voted three times in favour of May’s Brexit withdrawal agreement. Sunak backed Boris Johnson’s bid to succeed Theresa May as the head of the Conservative Party. Following his election as prime minister and appointment to that position, Johnson named Sunak Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Sajid Javid resigned from his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020, and Sunak took over in his place.
