Rory McIlroy MBE was born on May 4, 1989, in Northern Ireland, and is a professional golfer on the European and PGA tours.



In 2013, he received an MBE. On top of his four major championship titles at Augusta National and in 2014, he won the U.S. Open (in 2011) and both the PGA and open championships that year (in 2014).

He has won four major championships in his career. In 2011, at the age of 22, he became the European Tour’s youngest ever player to earn more than €10 million in a career.



When he was a youngster, he was introduced to golf by his father, who taught him the sport. His initial preference was an instructional video by Nick Faldo on golf technique.

In 2005, he became the youngest-ever winner of both the Irish Close Championship and the West of Ireland Championship.

Rory McIlroy was part of the Northern Ireland squad that won the 2005 European Amateur Squad Championship.

He won the European Amateur Championship in 2006 while playing at the Biella Golf Club near Milan, Italy’s capital. He became only the second individual in history to top the World Amateur Golf Rankings on February 6, 2007.

At Carnoustie, he shot a 3-under-par 68 to open the 2007 Open Championship.
