1. Ray Childress
While playing for the Oilers, Childress earned five Pro Bowl honors over a seven-year span from 1988 to 1992, helping Houston to seven straight postseason appearances. Elvin Bethea holds the record for most sacks in the history of the Edmonton Oilers, with 75.5. Sixth-most appearances in franchise history for Childress.
2. Albert Haynesworth
Albert Haynesworth faced two defenders virtually every snap, he still managed 14.5 sacks in 2007 and 2008, as well as six interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 91 total tackles.
Defensive Player of the Year was awarded in 2008 to James Harrison for his sacks, but Haynesworth was the better player.
3. Jevon Kearse
In 1999, Kearse was drafted 16th overall by the NFL out of Florida and went on to post 14.5 sacks in his rookie season, earning him the title of Defensive Rookie of the Year. In his first three seasons as a professional, he started every game and was named to the Pro Bowl in each of them.
When the Eagles offered him a large salary, Kearse turned it down and rejoined the Titans in 2008. He has a total of 52 sacks and 227 tackles in 88 games with Tennessee.
4. Jurrell Casey
While playing for the Titans in 2011, Casey had 449 tackles, 46 tackles for loss, and three fumble recoveries. In addition, he has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last four years.
5. Curley Culp
While at Arizona State, Culp was a model nose tackle for coach Bum Phillips’ 3-4 defense. In comparison to today’s standards, his 6-foot-2, 265-pound stature was small, but his incredible strength allowed him to dominate his opponents.
He was frequently targeted by double- and triple-teams, allowing his teammates to take advantage of the situation. During his six-plus years in Houston, Culp was selected to four Pro Bowls.
