She often made appearances on Fox News while she was a member of Congress to lambast the Barack Obama administration for “refusing” to identify “radical Islam” or “Islamic extremism” as the “true adversary” of the United States. She now advocates for conservative views on transgender rights and abortion.

Although she did not join the Republicans and is still unaffiliated with any party, she announced in October 2022 that she had completely left the Democratic Party, citing the party’s shift in foreign policy and social concerns as the main causes.
