Yusei Kikuchi Plays for Toronto Blue Jays. He joined the Blue Jays On March 14, 2022
According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network and Audacy Sports, left-handed starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a three-year, $36 million contract.
For the first three seasons of his professional baseball career, Kikuchi was a member of the Seattle Mariners.
A 4.41 earned run average (4.61 FIP, 1.32 WAR) and 163 strikeouts in 157 innings were the results of his performance in 2013.
Kikuchi pitched for the Saitama Seibu Lions of Nippon Professional Baseball for eight seasons before coming to the United States, going 73-46 with a 2.77 ERA.
Even with the loss of American League Cy Young winner Robbie Ray to the M’s, the Blue Jays starting rotation is loaded on paper.
It was a promising start for Kikuchi in the 2021 season. In his first All-Star appearance, the left-hander had a 6-4 record and a 3.64 ERA.
As a result, Kikuchi was removed from the rotation as the Mariners made their final drive for a Wild Card position in the final weeks of the season.
Survive season, Kikuchi went 1-5 with a 5.98 earned run average in his final 13 appearances, failing to last more than 3 innings in three of those appearances.
In 70 starts for the Mariners, Kikuchi was 15-24 with a 4.97 ERA. With Kikuchi, the Blue Jays are taking a chance, hoping it was just a one-off.
