Bette Midler who is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, was raised in a neighborhood that was predominantly Asian at the time of her birth. Bette is from a working-class family. 

Her mother, Ruth combined two jobs as a seamstress and a housewife, and her father, Fred Midler was a painter at a Navy post in Hawaii and also worked as a house painter.
