Nola started his baseball career at a young age, thanks to his father. His father, A. J. served as Austin and his junior brother’s baseball coach throughout their childhood.

Nola was one of the best prospects in high school. He had many offers from Major baseball teams.



He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2008 but did not sign a professional contract with them. He insisted on playing college baseball for Louisiana State University.

The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Nola in his junior year of college but turned down a contract and decided to finish college first.

Austin Nola Professional Career

Nola was selected by the Miami Marlins in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft, and he decided to sign with them for a $75,000 signing bonus.


He progressed through the Marlins’ farm system over the following few seasons, eventually making it to the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs in 2015.

It was then that Nola, realizing that his career as a shortstop was going nowhere, decided to switch to catching in an effort to jumpstart it.

After gaining experience in the position during his time spent playing in the Arizona Fall League, he began making regular starts behind the plate in 2017.

Nola, who had been a free agent following the conclusion of the 2018 season, agreed to terms with the Mariners.

In June of 2019, he made his first appearance in the major leagues with Seattle. Nola was traded to the Padres by the Mariners at the trading deadline in 2020.

It was with the Padres that Nola made his maiden postseason appearance in Major League Baseball.
