Sonny Barger, a motorcyclist from California who was best known for creating the Hells Angels, has passed away as a result of cancer.

Ralph “Sonny” Barger, who was a founder member of the Hell’s Angels motorcycle organization who passed away at the age of 83.

On the biker and author’s Facebook profile, a farewell note was posted, which he had prepared before his passing and published before his passing.

Who is Sonny Barger?

American outlaw biker Sonny Barger, also known as Ralph Hubert Barger, founded the Oakland, California, chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in 1957.

Ralph Hubert Barger was his father, and Kathryn Carmella Barger was his mother. His grandmother and his alcoholic father were left to raise Barger and his older sister Shirley after his mother abandoned the family when he was just four months old.

He routinely fought with other pupils while he was in school and was frequently expelled for assaulting teachers. He finished ninth grade and dropped out.

Barger joined his first motorcycle club, the Oakland Panthers, in 1956. When that organization disbanded, he started riding with another set of bikers, among them Don “Boots” Reeves.

Later, on April 1, 1957, he founded his own group, the Hells Angels.
