The ceremony was initially set for January 31, 2022, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, but the Recording Academy rescheduled it indefinitely on January 5, 2022, regarding the health and safety concerns about the COVID-19 Omicron version. The event was moved to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on January 18, 2022, and was rescheduled for April 3, 2022.

St.Vincent started her musical role as a member of the Polyphonic Spree when she was a child in Dallas, Texas. Prior to founding her own band in 2006, she was a member of Sufjan Stevens’ tour band. In 2007, she released her first solo album, Marry Me.
