Paul Goldschmidt, the full name Paul Edward Goldschmidt is an American born professional baseball player known to play as the first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He wears the number 46 jersey in the team and is 1.91 m tall.



He was born in Wilmington, Delaware but grew up in The Woodlands, Texas. When he reached high school age, he went to The Woodlands High School where he played as third baseman for their baseball team. Paul was part of the team when they won the state championship in 2006.

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Goldschmidt in the 49th round of the 2006 MLB draft. After high school, he continued his education and amateur career at Texas State University where he played college baseball for the Texas State Bobcats baseball team. He was privileged to be named the Southland Conference hitter of the year in 2008 and 2009 as well as the Southland player of the year in 2009.

In 2009, the Arizona Diamondbacks chose him in the 8th round of the 2009 MLB draft. He agreed to play with them and signed with the team after which he was paid $95,000 as a signing bonus. He made his professional debut that year when he was assigned to the Missoula Osprey of the Rookie-level Pioneer League.

He was promoted to the major leagues on August 1, 2011. He made his MLB debut that same day for the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks traded him to the St Louis Cardinals in December 2018 and in March 2019 the Cardinals signed a five-year contract extension worth $130 million with him.
