Alexander James Wells is an Australian Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB). On August 29, 2015, Wells signed as an international free agent with the Baltimore Orioles.

In 2016, he made his professional debut with the Low-A Aberdeen IronBirds, where he played the entire season, compiling a 4–5 record, 2.15 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP. He pitched for the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 2017, posting an 11–5 record with a 2.38 ERA in 25 starts.

Wells pitched for the High-A Frederick Keys in the season, going 7–8 with a 3.47 ERA in 135 innings. He started and finished the 2019 season with the Double-A Bowie Baysox, posting an 8-6 record and 2.95 ERA in 24 outings. Following the 2019 season, he played for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League.

Wells did not play in a game in 2020 since the minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Wells was added to the Orioles’ 40-man roster on November 20, 2020. To begin the 2021 season, he was assigned to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, where he earned a 5.63 ERA in eight outings.

Wells got promoted to the top leagues for the first time on June 25, 2021.

The next day, he made his MLB debut, throwing in relief against the Houston Astros. In Baltimore’s 13–3 victory over the Astros on June 29, Wells earned his first major league victory. Following the game, Wells was optioned back to Norfolk
