After graduating from high school, he continued at Dyersburg State Community College where he played college baseball for the team and recorded a 7–3 with a 3.64 ERA over 12 starts during the 2018 college baseball season.

When the season was over, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB draft. He signed with the Braves and made his professional debut that season with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Braves of minor league baseball.

During the 2019 season, he was assigned to pitch for the Rome Braves of the Class A South Atlantic League. In 2020, due to the cancellation of the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, William did not play in a game as there was none to be played in.
