Jake Odorizzi

After an underwhelming 2020 season, he became a free agent and struggled to find a team. He finally signed a two-year contract with the Houston Astros in the first week of March 2021.

The first year of his professional career saw him go 6-7, 4.21 with 104 2/3 innings of work in 24 appearances, including 23 starts.

With his switch to a long reliever in the postseason, he made two appearances in the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox, pitching four innings each time.

Odorizzi replaced Luis Garcia after he walked the first batter in the second inning and allowed four runs in the first inning.

It didn’t matter how many times he let up four runs in four innings because he was able to pitch till the conclusion of the fifth innings.

One of his only appearances came during Game 1 of the World Series against the Atlanta Braves when he was summoned to replace Framber Valdez who had given up 5 runs in the first two innings of that game.

As a 4th-inning sub, Jake threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out five opposing hitters.

As of May 16th, 2022, his record was 3-2, 3.38, however he had to leave a game against the Boston Red Sox after he fell while attempting to cover first base and needed to be taken away from the field.

It wasn’t a torn Achilles heel that was initially suspected, but rather damage to his tendons and ligaments. However, he’d be out for a long time after that.
