The Marlins promoted him to the major leagues in April 2013 and on April 30, 2013, he made his MLB debut for the team. He was traded to the St Louis Cardinals in December 2017 and in January 2018, the Cardinals signed a one-year contract worth $9 million with him. In January 2020, the Atlanta Braves signed a one-year contract of $18 million with him.
