Who Does Joe Ross Play For?
Joseph Andrew Ross is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball.
Ross was born in the United States on May 21, 1993. Ross was taken first overall by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. Ross made his debut in the main leagues in 2015.
In a three-team deal completed in December 2014, Ross was acquired by the Washington Nationals from the San Diego Padres.
With 11 strikeouts, he ended the Pittsburgh Pirates’ eight-game winning run with a relief appearance in June of that year. A member of the Nationals’ starting rotation to begin 2016, Ross ended up missing most of the season with inflammation in his shoulder.
The Nationals relied heavily on Ross in the early part of the season. Nationals scored at least 10 runs eight times during Ross’ 13 big league starts in 2017.
His elbow was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament on July 15, 2017, and he was declared out for the season with at least a portion of 2018 due to the injury.
A rain-delayed game on September 7, 2018, was Ross’ first MLB start in 14 months, although it was postponed twice. In spite of the fact that he had had surgery, his fastball was routinely timed at 95–96 mph, occasionally hitting 97 mph.
Max Scherzer’s back ailment kept him out of the starting lineup for Game 5 of the 2019 World Series, so Ross took his spot. The Astros beat him 7–1 after he gave up four runs in five innings of work.
